Cellar to Suite

by Lisa Loverro

Tucked away in the Mendoza region of Argentina, a unique 7-room boutique wine hotel exists. The SB Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites, the only luxury wine hotel in Latin America with fully integrated in-room spa features is also owned by Susana Balbo, Argentina’s first woman winemaker. Each suite features a steam room, and four of the seven suites are also equipped with a dry sauna.

Their signature “SB Fruits of the Vine” ritual is 3 hours of relaxing indulgence, without having to leave your suite. This in-room spa ritual provides exclusive wine therapy that seamlessly blends the art of winemaking with the indulgence of spa therapy direct from their cellar to your suite. At the heart of his treatment is a unique wine-infused cream, formulated at Ethicus Labs, the first dermatological laboratory in Mendoza, using grapes direct from Susana’s vineyard. The wine used, Brioso, is a blend of two Cabernets (Sauvignon and Franc), rich in anti-aging antioxidants that have been shown to help protect against free radicals that can damage skin cells and lead to signs of aging.

The treatment begins with a gentle exfoliation using grape seed oil, preparing the skin for maximum absorption. Following this, a special restorative steam shower serves as the bridge to continue with a body hydration wrap using the wine-infused cream. The water at the SB Winemaker’s House and Spa uses cationic resin to soften hard water into soft water suitable for these luxurious showers. The cream is then applied over the entire body. The warm wrap allows for the wine’s rich nutrients to nourish the skin. Following the wrap, a 50-minute massage puts you into a state of pure bliss. This is a truly unforgettable escape that lingers like the perfect vintage!
