This Halloween, make eco-friendly choices that reduce waste and lower your environmental impact without sacrificing the fun. From repurposing old costumes to using soy candles, there are plenty of simple ways to "green" your Halloween.
Green Your Kid’s Trick or Treat Bags

Dim The Lights!
Create an eerie atmosphere this Halloween with eco-friendly soy candles. Their natural glow flickers casting mysterious shadows that dance across your home space. These sustainable candles add a touch of spookiness while being kind to the environment. Whether illuminating a haunted house or adding a ghostly glow to your front porch, soy candles offer an eco-conscious way to set the perfect spooky vibe for Halloween night.
Compost Your Pumpkin
Tossing your pumpkin in the garbage will add to the millions of food waste that we throw out annually. Anne Germain, Chief Operating Officer & Sr VP of Regulatory Affairs at National Waste & Recycling Association has been quoted as saying “Food waste deposited in landfills, including discarded Halloween pumpkins, produces methane which, if not managed properly, can contribute to greenhouse gases. Composting a pumpkin can help produce treats for the environment!”
Here are some easy tricks for composting your pumpkin; but first, be sure all decorations and candle wax are removed from the gourd.
- If your pumpkin is uncarved, remove all the seeds (roast them with some salt, they’re delicious!).
- Cut your pumpkin into small pieces to make it easier for them to break down
- Smash down the pieces (an activity the kids will enjoy) and find a spot in your yard. Cover the smashed bits with leaves and let nature do the rest!
- You may want to mix the pile every week and make sure it has good porosity so air can flow through it.
As you celebrate Halloween, remember that small changes can make a big difference in creating a more sustainable holiday. By choosing eco-friendly options, you’re helping reduce waste and protect the environment. Let your green efforts inspire others, ensuring a more mindful, eco-conscious celebration for years to come.
