Holistic Healing Therapies from the Greek Islands

by Pam O'Brien

For a journey that will transform you, body and soul, head to the islands of Mykonos and Santorini in Greece. There, at two idyllic properties owned by Domes Resorts, you can indulge in specially designed Soma Spa experiences that deeply relax and replenish—and also help you forge a connection to each island.

“The approach we use enhances the authenticity of the spa experience and helps our guests feel more connected to the local environment and traditions,” says Ioannis Charalambous, Spa & Wellness Consultant for Soma Spas at Domes Resorts. “Our signature treatments use local flora and fauna, many of which are known for their healing properties. That allows us to customize therapies and ensure that each spa experience highlights the best of what the island has to offer and provides guests with the natural healing benefits associated with each location.”

In addition to using local ingredients such as honey, rosemary, and olive oil, the spa experiences are true to the ethos of each island. On Mykonos, which has a fun, spirited vibe and a vibrant party scene, the treatments are designed to help guests recover and detox, while also giving them a sense of fun. For instance, the playfully named Yes Honey face and body ritual at Domes Noruz Mykonos starts with a relaxing full body massage and culminates in a refreshing face cleansing, featuring a honey enzyme peel with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to rejuvenate.

On Santorini, the treatments are luxurious and sophisticated like the island itself, “with a goal not only of pampering but of meaningfully contributing to your overall well-being,” Charalambous says. Case in point: the Olive Root Spa Experience at Domes Novos Santorini uses olive oil, which is rich in vitamins A and E, to soothe and revive the skin and body, along with an olive oil face mask that’s infused with rosemary, which grows on the island. “Rosemary has anti-microbial benefits that brings everything back into balance,” Charalambous explains.

At both destinations, if you’re craving full body wellness and total relaxation, you can opt for the Hippocratic Therapeutic Massage, which is inspired by the therapeutic healing principles of Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician. This revitalizing experience includes a targeted detoxification and cleansing massage that focuses on the head (the crown of your body), the abdomen (the center of your body) and the feet (your foundation) to promote healing from within. It finishes with a “rain drop” of aloe vera water infused with kefir. You’ll walk out the door with your senses awakened, your body renewed, and feeling energized to explore all that these magical islands have to offer.
