For quite some time, if you called some ab moves “Pilates” you were not only doing it wrong, but also using a misnomer. Ditto for tweaking the equipment. But times have changed, and these days, traditional ab series mixed with newer moves are commonplace at Pilates studios with a capital P.
One Manhattan outpost is taking the modernization one step further with the Flexformer. Created by the same engineering whizzes behind the almighty SoulCycle bikes, the patented apparatus blends the best of the Wunda Chair and the Reformer for an allover targeting machine that provides a combo of 30+ additional moves. Classes on the specialized machine are 55 minutes and held exclusively at the FLEX studios. The group workouts are fast-paced, efficient and burn in all the right places.
