This past week, to mark the end of Earth Week, thousands of vendors, sponsors and attendees came out to The Green Festival in New York City at Pier 94. The Green Festival is the longest-running sustainable green event in the country, with additional events in Washington DC, Chicago and California.
The Green Festival has something for everyone, showcasing the best and latest products and services on the market. This event provides “greenies” a utopia to connect one on one with their favorite brands, while exploring the new products and opportunities. The festival also allows newbies to grasp an understanding of how easily sustainability can be incorporated into everyday life.
Here are some brands that were there:
1 Vega Plant-based nutrition for you and the planet; their goal is to be a zero-waste company (zero carbon footprint).
2 Clif Bars Energy bars that taste good, and currently partner with the Rainforest Alliance to conserve biodiversity.
3 Just Foods Connecting communities and local farmers with resources; they support making food accessible to all New Yorkers. They also run Farm School NYC (The New York City School of Urban Agriculture).
4 Kiroja Skin care products with a simple philosophy: All of their products are organic or wild harvested.
5 Nutiva Nourishing people and the planet with coconut oil, hemp, chia seeds and red palm. 1 percent of all sales go to sustainable agriculture. By the end of this year, they will have donated over 2 million dollars.
6 Rescue Chocolate The sweetest way to save a life! For each chocolate bar purchased, 100 percent of net profit are donated to animal rescue organizations.
7 Raw Revolution These no-GMO fruit and nut bars are vegan and really delicious.
8 The Naked Grape This wine company practices social responsibility by using as many aspects of the grape as possible for things like compost and cattle feed. They also offer boxed wine that is fully recyclable from bag to box.
There were also great keynote speakers such as Dan Harris from ABC News and Amy Goodman from Democracy Now!. Our own Editor-in-Chief Rona Berg led a panel called Connecting the Dots: How Your Beauty Products Affect Your Health & the Environment. Panel experts included Angela Sun, Brittany Aragon and myself.
