The Norwegian-owned Viking Cruise Line features ships that are bigger than some, though not as big as others. In fact, they are the perfect size to accommodate the biggest—and the best—spas that travel the ocean.
The LivNordic Spa onboard is an extension of the original created at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm by the spa consultancy, Raison d’Etre Spas, helmed by Anna Bjurstam, also with Six Senses spas. It is the only one onboard a ship to feature a traditional Nordic Bathing Ritual. The hot/cold circuit, with heated pool, snow grotto (where snowflakes gently float from the ceiling), steam room and ice bath, is a version of “taking the waters” that has been practiced in Scandinavia for centuries, said to have been brought back by the Vikings. Not only is it tremendously invigorating; it is included with the voyage, at no extra cost.
The new Viking Jupiter, sixth sister ship in the ocean fleet, is introducing something new in the spa: a customized massage, based on what the guest needs, which may include hot stones or cupping. The ship is also one of the most energy efficient in operation.
